A Brief History
I was born in Monterrey, Mexico in 1987 and moved to Texas when I was very young. My family ended up in San Antonio, Texas by the time I was 10 years old, which is also when I began playing guitar. My early years of guitar playing were consumed with the heavy sounds of Metallica, Led Zeppelin,
and Ozzy Osborne.
Whithin only two years of learning rock guitar things changed quite suddenly while listening to my cousin play several classical pieces on a nylon string guitar. I remember thinking: “That’s how I want to play!”. It was at that moment, at 14 years of age, that I began formal classical guitar studies with David Underwood in San Antonio.
After studying with David for about four years, I continued my classical guitar studies at Pepperdine University, where I completed my B.A. in classical guitar and vocal performance. During my years at Pepperdine, I was fortunate to be a private student of Christopher Parkening, a classical guitarist I have admired since I was very young. I am now located in Goleta, California where I am currently pursuing a graduate degree in music at UCSB.
